Sketchnoting Challenge: David Allen on Mac Power Users : and the Winners are...

Congratulations to our winners: Marc Bourguignon and Monica Lopez!

Marc and Monica are our two winning sketchnotes selected by David Sparks and  Katie Floyd, hosts of Mac Power Users.

Both David and Katie loved the work from all of the participants, and because it was so good, had a hard time choosing. Way to go, Sketchnote Army soldiers! :-)

Marc Bourguignon Sketchnote

Marc does a great job of establishing a clear flow in this sketchnote, starting with the 3 subjects of the podcast (David, Katie and David Allen), then using the lake of new age tech flowing into the stream of information. This central focus helps my eye move through his sketchnote and capture the ideas on the left and right.

I like the details Marc has used as well: noting the time we specified from the podcast, so someone else can listen as a reference, the green highlight that adds that touch of color to help draw my eye around the sketchnote, and of course the fun drawings around the sketchnote (key, overload guy, trash guy, brain and knife).

Monica Lopez

Winner of PRIZE 2: A 30min personal Skype call with the Sketchnote Guy Mike Rohde + 1 The Sketchnote Workbook (PDF)

Monica does a wonderful job on her sketchnote as well, with a simpler approach that shows fewer, bolder highlights in sections on the page that flow from top to bottom. Each section has an image and text combination, which I really like, and white space between each one.

Monica has also used the highlight marker effectively to accentuate the key ideas in her sketchnote, on both words and elements (like the brain and snake jumping out of an email illustrations). I love the scanability of Monica's sketchnote.

Honorable Mention

Derek Graham

Derek Graham Sketchnote

Derek's sketchnote: I love Derek's style, imagery and use of typography. Even though his sketchnote is all black and white, he does a fantastic job with shading and varied weights of his lines to create a kind of color with tonality. I also love the illustrations and the simple scanability of this sketchnote.

Melaine D'Cruze

Melaine D'Cruze Sketchnote

I like how this sketchnote has a clear structure to separate ideas, the icons for each section and color emphasis. A lighter, finer separator line for sections might be better than the heavy black line as an option, but I love the immediacy of her style.
