Sketchnote Handbook: Book Project, Video, Podcast Update

The Sketchnote Handbook Cover: Final

I'm smack in the middle of writing and illustrating The Sketchnote Handbook this summer and realized I've not shared much of the book creation process here on Sketchnote Army. Shame on me. :-)

Having a few minutes on a quiet Saturday afternoon, I'd like to share a new video and links to the book updates if you're like to check them out.

The Sketchnote Handbook

This spring I teamed up with Peachpit Press to write and illustrate a book on sketchnotes and sketchnoting. This how-to book would be a little different, featuring fully illustrated writing on cream stock with rounded corners, like a Moleskine.

The book will have 240 pages, will feature a group of sketchnoters from around the world and share what sketchnotes are, why and how to do them. The book and companion video/DVD are scheduled for an October 2012 release — so I have a bunch of work yet to do.

Part of the writing for me has been sharing the process of writing a book on my Rohdesign Weblog, with 5 entries talking about my progress over the last few months. You can check out the whole series of articles for more backstory and sign up for my email newsletter to be alerted when new posts are published.

The Sketchnoter Video

First is a video my friend Brian Artka shot of me for the Sketchnote Handbook video project, which will be available as a video version of the book. This was just lighting test, which Brian turned into a great promo video for me and sketchnoting:

While the actual instructional videos will be much more straightforward, we had a great time creating this little film from test video shots in Brian's office.

Pen Addict Podcast: Sketchnoting

Last week I was honored to appear on The Pen Addict Podcast with Myke Hurley and Brad Dowdy of the 70Decibels Network.

I had a great time sharing how sketchnoting came to be, the REWORK, The $100 Startup and Little Book of Talent illustration work resulting from it, the creation of Sketchnote Army and The Sketchnote Handbook.

Go have a listen to the MP3 and if you're a pen addict like me, subscribe to the podcast.

Thanks to everyone who is now reading and following the Sketchnote Army — we're trying to be more consistent with posting of new sketchnotes here and appreciate your readership and suggestions.
